I have an article, and a potential publisher, how do I submit this without limiting my potential?

I have written an article, and have a potential publisher. It is ready to send... I don't want to limit my potential here.

Can I submit an article to multiple magazines at once? What happens if two accept it? Do I need to pick one?

Once it is published, what rights do I retain to it? Could I submit it for publication with another magazine at a later date? Does the magazine gain the rights to my work?

I haven't done this before, and don't want to get burned.|||It鈥檚 not considered good practice to submit to multiple publications in the same market at the same time. Many magazines don't want pieces you have submitted to other magazines. But others really don't care.

If you want to sell an article to one magazine, don鈥檛 also send it to their competitor.

However, You can submit to multiple magazines if the magazines are in completely different markets.

If you鈥檙e rejected from one magazine, however, you are free to go to the next.

Each publisher has its own guidelines, and they鈥檙e usually listed on the website. Read them carefully.
