Even if a trial date has been set, can a defendant change their plea to guilty and choose to pay a fine in NYS?

Basically a request for adjournment has been denied and the defendant does not want to miss a court date because there are severe consequences for that - so he would rather pay the fine. Is this possible to do in NYS and how do we go about it? Like submit a form in writing? Where would I find the related law?

Thanks.|||NYS

Yes, if your offense is not for a mandatory appearance violation. Pay the required fine prior to the court date. Just to be safe, notify the court clerk that you had a court date and decided to pay the fine instead. If you fail to pay by the court date, your license will be suspended.
