How long does a rental car company have to submit a debit card charge, AFTER authorization date?

I'm told that a merchant has 30 days from the date of the authorization. My bank MANUALLY posted it 58 days after the authorization, and overdrafted my checking account, while I had no overdraft protection.|||Check with your bank but I don't think there is any time limit. The hold created by the authorization might expire after 30 days if the transaction isn't processed, but the merchant can still process the transaction. Sometimes card processing services take longer.|||When you signed on the line, you gave the company authorization to get paid. This payment could be today or 11 months from now. If it has been over 1 year you might be able to justify not paying.

It helps to maintain an account register. This way you don't get confused about your available balance in the account, being your actual available balance.
